Andy Mundy is an Executive at Transmission Private, specialising in digital communications, digital media, and managing online profiles. Prior to joining the agency, he worked in various digital marketing and PR roles since graduating from Oxford Brookes University with a BA in English Language and Communications.
What did you do before joining TP?
Andy: I have worked in various digital marketing and PR roles since graduating from university, including a tech start-up and an internal marketing department.
Most recently, I was working at a consumer and lifestyle PR agency that specialises in sustainability and conservation. This understanding of ESG was something that I wanted to bring to my work at Transmission Private.
What attracted you to TP?
Andy: I have had a very fulfilling career in PR, but very rarely does an opportunity come along where you have the chance to work with highly successful individuals.
Private clients’ requirements are truly bespoke, delicate, and carry high stakes — which for me, seemed much more fulfilling and exciting than consumer PR. In consumer PR, the implications of your strategic decisions are not as critical.
What has surprised you most about working at TP?
Andy: I was surprised at the digital expertise of the agency. I have worked with international start-ups that employ full-stack developers and internal SEO and PPC teams. Yet, the SEO capabilities of Transmission Private are on par with those, if not superior.
How is this type of PR work different to other PR you have done in the past?
Andy: The consumer and lifestyle PR background I have come from would typically employ a high-volume PR strategy. We would always seek to maximise the number of pieces of coverage to create as much exposure for the client as possible and ensure that strict coverage quotas are met.
At Transmission Private, we primarily represent successful individuals who, unlike consumer brands, only want to be positioned in front of a very discerning selection of individuals and stakeholders. Credibility is more important than coverage.
Therefore, we take a much more calculated and measured approach. The PR work at Transmission Private requires us to be calculated, discreet, and to build strong relationships with journalists to enhance our clients’ credibility.
What would you tell other people who are thinking of joining TP?
Andy: Expect to hit the ground running. You are given a huge amount of responsibility from day one, which not only makes you feel valued and trusted by the agency but correlates with a rapid path of progression.
Proactivity goes a long way here, both in and out of the office. Always keep an eye on what’s going on in the news; not only will it help you understand the broader political, social and economic landscape at which we operate — but it will be essential for building long-lasting relationships with our clients.
We are our clients’ eyes and ears, and they have our absolute trust in that.
What skills have you had to use in the office that you did not expect?
Andy: Innovation and entrepreneurship. Transmission Private expects you to constantly strive to identify new ways of doing things better.
Ultimately, it’s how we stay ahead of the competition and ensure that we are the first choice strategic communications advisor to successful individuals, executives, and their businesses.
I am not only an ‘Executive’ but also a Partner who has an equal say as to how the company is run.
What’s the team culture like in the office?
Andy: We’re a diverse, inclusive and welcoming team from a variety of backgrounds. Everyone is empowered to share a second opinion or idea, regardless of how left-field it is. You never know, it could be the next ground-breaking PR trend. We have a laugh too but know when to knuckle down to meet tight deadlines.
How do you relax outside of work?
Andy: I’m not very good at relaxing in the traditional sense. An evening in front of the TV doesn’t quite cut the mustard for me. I feel relaxed by constantly being on the go — socialising, skiing, cycling, and cooking are just a few examples.
How would you describe other people at TP?
Andy: Despite everyone’s tenacious and entrepreneurial characteristics, no one is a soloist. We move forward as a team, and no one gets left behind.
Everyone is highly approachable and always more than happy to impart their knowledge to ensure that everyone gets the job done to the best of their ability.
